A collaborative endeavor by my team of four design students, we were tasked with condensing three textbooks (Bruce Mao’s Massive Change, MC24, and The Nexus) into a visually dynamic 97-page experience. Our creative process began with meticulous note-taking, combining complementary information from across the 3 textbooks. After generating an abundance of style options, we compared, refined, and ultimately settled on a modern collage style that mirrored the intertwined nature of the content.
We then establish specific page formats, ensuring both experimental flair and readability. With a unified design direction in place, we paired our selected content with our page templates, and puzzle-pieced the pages into a cohesive narrative. After several meetings with our client, we were able to organize a meaningful and concise introduction to the inspirational curriculum of Bruce Mao’s.
Our final task was to create an interesting yet mature cover for our pocket guide that would maintain integrity with some wear and tear. After experimenting with various materials, cutouts, and designs, we decided to engrave the textbook titles across the cover to create a textured exterior, with the title standing out in their brand’s signature deep red color.
